How my blog started
I have wanted to start a blog or YouTube channel for the longest time. As a physicist, I found it hard to embrace the skincare and beauty loving part of me whilst trying to be a woman in a very much men dominated field. To be accepted and taken seriously as a young scientist, I didn’t want to disclose my more “feminine” side if you like. But I have always loved skincare and makeup and growing older and gaining more confidence in myself helped me realise that who says I can’t do both?!
I finally started up my blog earlier this year, while I was recovering from Legionnaires’ disease. I got ill from the negligence and incompetence of my University (Research lab) and I realised I did not want this hateful place to stop me from doing something I was passionate about. I also wanted to follow my dreams and make them happen, after being given only a 30% chance to survive. I’m so happy I started, and I’m fully recovered now and loving doing this more and more everyday!
Advice for new bloggers
My number one advice would be: have fun! Although its all too easy to get sucked into the analytics and numbers of it, the main reason you work on your blog should be because you enjoy it, it makes you happy, and you’re passionate about it! That’s what I believe 🙂 I’m definitely guilty of looking at numbers but I try to focus on creating content that I can feel proud of!
My second piece of advice would be to keep a diary/planner to keep on top of scheduling and a place to write down any ideas for posts that you might have. I find that having a list of posts (even if its just titles) helps my motivation and having some kind of aim/deadline really helps me to keep going and try to strive for something that I set for myself. I like planning everything in my bullet journal – then you get to have a little fun and make everything look nice!
